The New Year obliges us to take new actions, so in 2025 I am very pleased to share with you the first playlist "Rhythm & Tact", which I hope will help you say goodbye to boredom during your trainings.
Horses hear music just like you do, or even better, because as escaping animals, their sense of hearing is much more developed than humans.
During my training classes of my classic horses, I often turned on music (not classical at all), which, especially in the case of young horses, helps maintain the correct rhythm and tact, which is crucial in the initial phase of training and without which we will not move forward with the elements.
On the playlist you will find songs that will perfectly match all three gaits, i.e. four-beat walk, two-beat trot and three-beat gallop. Listen to the list in advance and listen to the beat - I specifically chose the songs in which the rhythm can be heard very clearly.
In addition, try the exercises below, please match them to the level of training of your horses and don't worry about the positioning - with rhythmic movements and relaxation as well as the positioning of the hindquarters, the positioning will come automatically, just keep the contact and relax your hands (I remind you - we do not confuse positioning with collection, see - 6-level horse training scale).
EXERCISE NO 1.
Widening your step at a walk, trot, gallop - while maintaining the same pace, try to lengthen your step.
EXERCISE NO. 2
Transitions: walk trot, trot gallop, canter walk on the circle, serpentine and envelope.
EXERCISE NR. 3 *
In the figure of eight (while maintaining the rhythm), transitions when changing direction: walk - stop - walk, trot - walk - trot, canter - trot - canter, canter - walk - canter. When changing gait, the hand always moves forward.
Remember, horses cannot stand boredom, so it's better to do a short, varied training instead of driving around the wheel ad nauseam and forcing them to do things that your horse is simply not ready for yet.
Happily and forwardly, my dears - that's what I wish you in this beautiful New Year!
